History

Hederman Brothers began modestly in 1898, with brothers Robert and Tom Hederman working in a second story office over a Chinese laundry and barber shop in Jackson, Mississippi.

By 1907, Hederman Brothers had moved to East Pearl Street where it would reside for the next 85 years.

Total sales for Hederman Brothers in 1923 were $133,000 with some revenue generated from bailing scrap paper and selling it to a scrap dealer for recycling.

In 1928, Hederman Brothers purchased the first offset printing press to operate in Mississippi.

Hederman Brothers earliest deliveries were made by mule and wagon until they purchased a 1935 Ford truck for $644, their first motorized delivery vehicle. Deliveries throughout the state were sent by rail. In the same year, sales exceeded $150,000.

After forty years of steady growth, Robert's sons, Zach and Henry, assumed control of the thriving company in 1938.

In 1955, Hederman Brothers installed their first two color offset press, a Harris 25" x 38".

Hederman Brothers purchased their first electronic typesetting system in 1965 and shared it with The Clarion-Ledger.

The first perfecting press was installed in 1968, a Miller two color 25" x 38".

Hederman Brothers printed and bound the first run of Southern Sideboards cookbooks for the Junior League of Jackson in 1978.

In 1982, Henry and his son Hap, purchased the printing company from the other family members with plans of expanding the 40,000 square-foot office in downtown Jackson. In the same year, Hederman Brothers also installed their first Heidelberg 40" four color press.

Total sales in 1985 exceed $6.5 million dollars.

Ten years later in 1992, Hederman Brothers installs another Heidelberg press, a 29" five color with aqueous coating capability.

With business and technology booming in 1993, Hederman Brothers purchased their first Heidelberg 40" six color press with aqueous coating capability and embraced another challenge, moving 7 miles north to Ridgeland, Mississippi and nearly doubling the size of the downtown printing facility.

With computers becoming more popular and efficient, Hederman Brothers installed a digital pre-press system in 1994 which included graphic design workstations, color scanning, electronic stripping, digital proofing and direct to film output.

In 1996, Hederman Brothers continued its relationship with Heidelberg by purchasing another press, a 28" six color with aqueous coating capability and a spectraphotometer for precise color control.

With 112 staff members and approximately $11.5 million in sales, Hederman Brothers was ready to celebrate a century in print in 1997.

In 1998, Hederman Brothers celebrated its 100th anniversary and became a part of Master Graphics, a large printing consolidator located in Memphis, Tennessee.

The first day of 2001, Hederman Brothers would challenge itself again and break away from the 18 divisions of Master Graphics to become a privately held Mississippi corporation.

Today, Hederman Brothers is one of the largest sheetfed printers in the region with sales exceeding $13 million dollars.
